“Today I completed my first repair”

August 18, 2026

A few weeks ago, Melick, a biomedical technician at Justinien University Hospital (JUH), sent us a message that showed the power of your support.

“Today I completed my first repair. I fixed an oxygen concentrator that hadn’t been working for more than three weeks. After making the necessary repairs, it is now working normally and producing a normal oxygen concentration.”

Melick had just completed a new training program designed to help hospital technicians keep important medical equipment working. His first repair was a simple but powerful example of what this investment can make possible.

When medical equipment breaks in northern Haiti, hospitals often have few options. Hospitals might have equipment they need, but not enough trained people to maintain it, fix problems, or make repairs. A broken machine can sit unused for weeks or months while patients wait.

Thanks to your generosity, we are helping change that.

Through a partnership with the J&K Wonderland Foundation, Hope Health Action, and the Dalton Foundation, 16 biomedical technicians from hospitals across northern Haiti participated in a specialized training program. The goal was to help local technicians gain the skills they need to keep lifesaving equipment working.

Melick was one of the participants. He attended all 16 training sessions, completed his coursework, and passed the final exam. He was one of 10 technicians who completed all requirements and received a certificate.

The training included lessons on how to safely care for medical equipment, find problems, and make repairs. Each graduate also received tools, supplies, and resources to help them put their new skills to work right away.

The impact of this program will continue to grow.

The technicians will receive ongoing support as they use their new skills in their hospitals. They will also have access to a system that helps hospitals keep track of their equipment, plan regular maintenance, and record repairs. A network of experienced biomedical professionals will also be available to provide guidance when difficult repairs come up.

This is what your support makes possible: not just providing equipment, but investing in the people who keep that equipment working for years to come.

Every repaired machine means more patients can receive the care they need. Every trained technician strengthens Haiti’s healthcare system.
