Plans for 2024 Take Shape with New Ambulance and Quality Improvements

February 7, 2024

Dear Friends,

With two recent week-long visits to Cap-Haitien under my belt, I can claim to be an expert on … not much. Haiti is, to say the least, a complex country.

I can, however, tell you with great confidence that the work Konbit Sante and our partners are doing is making a real difference. From critical support to the pediatric unit at Justinien Hospital to vital outreach by community health workers at Fort St. Michel, families and children are gaining access to essential care.

At Unite de Lutte pour la Sante, a new Toyota ambulance supported in part by grants to Konbit Sante and delivered just a few weeks ago, is making transport to and from that hospital faster and easier for patients. Our newest partner, Serving Sante in Limbe, is implementing management practices that will enable it to measure outcomes and apply system improvements in a timely manner.

All of this work is being done in the context of growing political uncertainty and instability.

We have ambitious plans for the year ahead. Thanks to your generosity, Konbit Sante begins 2024 in a position of strength and stability. In a dynamic environment such as we find in Haiti, our ability to sustain our work and stay the course is especially important. You have helped make this possible.

Looking ahead, we’re exploring programs that may enable our partners to service medical equipment on-site and in real time. We will be supporting four additional nurses at the pediatric service in Justinien Hospital. We will be offering research and management courses delivered by experts to Cap-Haitien area medical residents.

Organizationally, we will be embarking upon a strategic planningprocess within the coming weeks. Planning isn’t glamorous, but it provides the framework for doing our best work.

All of this, of course, is made possible by your generous support.

I said at the outset of this post that I have an awful lot to learn. To that end, I welcome your input and guidance as we move forward together. Please do feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions that will help us make a greater difference.
It is a privilege to be a part of this extraordinary organization. With deepest gratitude,

Perry Newman
Executive Director
