On August 14th at approximately 8:30am, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. The earthquake caused severe damage in the southern part of the country. Grande-Anse, Nippes, and Sud departments were particularly affected. The tremors were felt throughout the country as far north as Cap-Haitien, where Konbit Sante’s partners and staff live and work.
We have been in communication yesterday and today with our partners in the north to confirm their safety. We are all affected by this news in one way or another. Our staff and partners have family and friends in the southern region and are working hard to connect and to understand their needs at this time.
The extent of this earthquake’s damage is still unknown, however, casualties continue to rise in number. We have offered our support to area hospitals and have reached out to organizations working in the area. In the days to come, Konbit Sante will remain connected to our partners and other organizations in the south. We stand by ready to help.
One of the key things we understand in this work is that we stand together, especially during tough times. Konbit Sante will continue to support and encourage our Haitian friends, colleagues, and communities.
We will navigate this challenging time together.
