Portable diagnostic equipment is vital to providing health care to remote communities in developing countries. We recently consigned some VistaScan ultrasound equipment that was donated by the nonprofit organization Humanitarian Radiology Development (HRD) Corps. for Serving Santé, a healthcare clinic in Limbe.
VistaScan was developed by Emagine Solutions Technology, a medical technology company based in Tuscon, Arizona, to provide clinicians with imaging capability in the field. Clinicians connect a lightweight, ergonomically-friendly probe to transmit images to a cellphone or tablet. The product fits easily into a backpack and costs less than a full-sized ultrasound machine, which makes it ideal for use in the field.
Two VistaScan packages were delivered to Serving Santé. Courtney Williams, CEO and co-founder of Emagine Solutions Technology, and Berndt Schmit, founder of Humanitarian Radiology Development Corps., conducted a virtual training session with Serving Santé Director Dr. Nelly Osias on how to use the equipment.
