Agents de santé (community health workers), whose salaries are supported by Konbit Sante, make up the first line of defense in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country. They are working tirelessly to educate the communities of Greater Cap-Haitien, traveling door-to-door to talk to residents and distributing flyers with tips on preventive measures such as frequent hand washing and social distancing, as well as how to recognize symptoms of infection. Some residents have posted the flyers they receive on their doors to help spread the word to their neighbors. Fort St. Michel’s new three-wheeled motorcycle, which was purchased with the help of Konbit Sante, has also proven to be a great asset in helping the CHWs get to as many neighborhoods as possible. As of April 15, there were 41 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Haiti and 3 confirmed deaths.
