Hopital de la Convention Baptiste d’Haiti (Haitian Baptist Convention Hospital, or HCBH) is a general hospital in the Quartier Morin community of Cap-Haitien that includes more than 100 beds, employs about 270 staff, and supports more than 20,000 patients per year. Opened in 2007, it receives support from Konbit Sante and Hope Health Action (HHA), a UK-based nonprofit organization.
Konbit Sante helped HHA and other partners fund a spinal cord rehabilitation facility on the HCBH campus in 2011 following a devastating earthquake that left many Haitian citizens paralyzed. Today, this facility is one of the leading physical therapy centers in northern Haiti. A maternity and neonatal unit was added in 2012, which now supports more than 1,600 deliveries and serves as a regional referral unit for premature infants.
HCBH provides general and orthopedic surgery; emergency, internal medicine, and pediatric care; laboratory and radiology services; and other clinical care. It also supports a wide range of community services in the field, including health education, immunizations, malnutrition treatment, and the identification of high-risk patient cases that are referred to the hospital.
In addition to helping HCBH provide health care on and off campus, Konbit Sante is working with HHA on sustainability planning and affordable medicine procurement with the goal of making the hospital more financially self-sufficient.
