Perry B. Newman is the Executive Director of Konbit Sante, an international nonprofit organization based in Maine dedicated to strengthening the health care system and improving health outcomes in northern Haiti. An experienced, effective and successful leader and manager of organizations with high-impact missions, Newman previously served as CEO of Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, a community development corporation based in Boston. Directing a staff of approximately thirty persons and managing a budget in excess of $6.5 million, Newman was responsible for overseeing the agency’s extensive real estate development, economic development and community organizing activities, serving a low income and diverse population. The organization is focused on economic mobility, community stability and affordable housing development.

With an extensive background in international business, law, diplomacy and community development, Newman has throughout his career led high impact organizations aimed at improving economic and social conditions in the United States, Canada, France and Israel. He was the first director of the Maine International Trade Center, a signature initiative of then-governor, now United States Senator Angus King. He was appointed by the Canadian federal government to serve in a diplomatic capacity and has also assisted the Consulate General of Israel in New England as a trusted advisor.

Mr. Newman’s interest in transportation policy resulted in his selection by the European Union to study project and infrastructure development in Brussels and Scandinavia.

An accomplished writer, Mr. Newman’s work has appeared in business, legal and general interest publications in the United States, Canada and Israel. He has spoken to groups on international business and economic development throughout the US and in Canada, and has been interviewed on such matters by National Public Radio (NPR), the Wall Street Journal, US Business Review and the CBC, among others.

An expert in international business, Mr. Newman taught International Business and International Marketing as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Maine. His first book, The Ten Commandments of International Business, provides a useful guide to “going global” for entrepreneurs and economic developers alike, and has been sold throughout N. America, Europe, Israel, and China. His most recent book, The Realist’s Guide to Nonprofit Leadership, is a reference and collection of case studies for executive directors and boards of directors interested in tackling the human aspects of leadership and management.

Throughout his career, Newman, a graduate of Oberlin College (B.A.) and Washington University (J.D.), has led, managed and consulted to organizations with high-profile, public missions and has shown an ability to build cohesive and highly-successful teams in a variety of diverse settings.

Mr. Newman lives in Maine and is an avid musician and fitness enthusiast. He is married to Sharon Newman, an attorney with expertise in environmental law, and has two adult daughters.
