Life Changing Medicines & Shipments Arrive In Haiti!

September 30th, 2016

We have some heartening news from the Justinian University Hospital campus.  In the last week, two major shipments arrived; one of medicines purchased from Europe, and our own 40 foot shipping container of medical supplies and equipment from Maine.

These shipments cleared customs quickly and duty-free using our status as a legally recognized humanitarian organization by the Haitian government.  This is something that we have been diligently working toward for many years.  Many thanks to our staff on the ground and local brokers who worked hard to clear and distribute these materials to our partner facilities.  It was the smoothest process yet!

Melick, with one of the newly arrived portable oxygen concentrators for pediatrics.

Melick Derius, who works for Konbit Sante in pediatrics and maternity as a service stock manager spoke of the item on the container he found most valuable.  "The oxygen concentrators are very helpful. Sometimes we don't have oxygen tanks in the pediatric service.  With the concentrators, kids can receive an important treatment without delay."

The shipment from Europe included child and prenatal vitamins for pregnant women;  Vitamin A for children, an important nutrient in areas with high rates of malnutrition; and chlorhexidine, a disinfectant used to prevent infections of umbilical cords after home births, which we will now be adding to all birthing kits that we distribute to Traditional Birth Attendants who are participating in monthly educational sessions for them that we are supporting.

Thanks to all of you, in Haiti and around the world, who helped make this happen.
