Donate Equipment and Supplies

itemsed

Konbit Sante collects, organizes, and ships one or two full 40-foot sea containers of equipment and supplies to Cap-Haitien each year. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the generous contributions of equipment and supplies we receive from local medical centers and physicians.

Our partner institutions, need a great many things, large and small, and providing essential supplies is one of the most concrete things we can do to increase the quality of patient care. We are working hard through our supply chain program to better understand exactly what is needed and leverage donations from other organizations such as Direct Relief International and Hope International. This means we are getting more selective about what donations we accept into our warehouse in Maine.

For a list of the types of things we generally accept, click here.

When considering items of equipment and supplies for possible donation, please keep in mind:
Sometimes low tech is better than high tech because of ease of repairs and availability of replacement parts. Reliability is very important. Things sent to Haiti need to be in good working order. Because of customs requirements and shipping lead time, we are not able to accept medications with expiration dates less than six months from the date of donation.

If you have item you believe is a match for our needs, please write to us at supplies@konbitsante.org describing the details of the item(s) you have and we will get back in touch with you to let you know if we will accept your donation and, if so, arrange delivery/pick up.

If you have a few boxes of miscellaneous medical supply items left over from your own medical care or that of a loved one, we recommend you donate them to our close friends at Partners for World Health (Contact Elizabeth Mclellan, mclellan.elizabeth@gmail.com, 207-671-4723). Partners for World Health’s mission is to collect clean, unused and otherwise discarded medical supplies from local hospitals to be distributed to medical facilities in Third World countries. All the while helping the environment by reducing waste in our landfills. Partners for World Health organizes and inventories medical supplies and that then allows Konbit Sante to have access to the most appropriate items for our work.

Please note that we do NOT accept clothing, food, or other non-medical items (with the exception of furniture). If you have these types of items to donate we recommend a local charity such as Goodwill or Salvation Army.
