Nurses

The nurses we support, like the physicians, are embedded within the public institutions where they work and, in addition to providing patient care, focus on training and supervising others. They play an instrumental role in building the capacity of the health systems they are a part of and increasing the quality of care patients receive.

Miguelle Antenor, RN, Agents de Sante Supervisor

Miguelle was born in Limbe and raised in Port-au-Prince and trained as a nurse at Justinian Hospital. Prior to joining Konbit Sante she was working at Fort St. Michel as a nurse supervisor for another NGO. Miguelle is very committed to community health outreach, a characteristic that made her a great candidate for the agents de sante (community health worker) supervisor position. Since starting in this position in January 2009, Miguelle has blossomed as a leader. She particularly enjoys doing her own outreach activities, forming and meeting with monthly with mothers' clubs in various neighborhoods throughout the catchment area.

Jeanne Marcelin Bright, RN, Women's Health Nurse Supervisor

Following her training as a nurse, Jeanne went on to work at Fort St. Michel Health Center. We, at Konbit Sante, first met her when she assisted with a study of family planning needs in the community that was conducted in 2008. With the staff and activities of the women's health outreach program continually increasing, adding another nurse supervisor to the team in August 2010 was an important next step. A new mother herself, Jeanne is particularly sensitive to the challenges facing mothers and kids.

Manuchca Alcime, RN, Wound Care Nurse Specialist

Manuchca trained as a nurse at Justinian Hospital's School of Nursing in her hometown of Cap-Haitien. She went on to work for a year at JUH's Maternity Service and then for five years as an Operating Room nurse. During this time she also served as a professor at the nursing school, teaching OR and basic nursing. Her experience and strong connections at JUH in addition to her enthusiastic and visionary approach to patient care made her a clear choice when Konbit Sante was looking to hire a wound care nurse specialist following the 2010 earthquake. Manuchca was able to come to Maine for a month in the fall of 2010 for further training in this specialty to better equip her for the challenges ahead.
