Maternal Care Study launched

mcUnderstanding what expectant mothers want so they can get the health care they need.

Konbit Sante and Haiti Hospital Appeal, in partnership with the Haitian Ministry of Health, has launched a study to better understand women's choices about maternity care. The study focuses on the Cap-Haitien neighborhood of Petit Ans and the nearby city of Quartier Moran, because pregnant women there have the least access to medical care.

Seven nurses, trained by Konbit Sante staff, met with women in focus groups and gathered data about their maternity experiences. Konbit Sante volunteers also assessed the quality of maternal services in the area.

Konbit Sante will share the result of the study with local policy-makers, hospital administrators, and others with the intention of influencing health policy and programming. This study will also help inform future projects to be undertaken by Konbit Sante.

The Maternal Care Study is part of Konbit Sante's commitment to improve women's health in Cap-Haitien.
